Abstract:
In one of his last research articles, Axelrod reviewed the large corpus of research conducted on the body's responses to increased psychological and physiological stress by the release of adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), glucocorticoids, epinephrine and norepinephrine by various glands. Axelrod found that the release of ACTH is controlled by complex regulatory mechanisms and that various hormones can indirectly control the release of ACTH by acting on central locations to modify the secretion of these releasing or inhibiting factors.
