Caption by Maclyn McCarty reads: "An experiment in January 1941, carried out to reconfirm earlier work indicating that ribonuclease has no effect on the transforming substance. The diphenylamine test for desoxyribose was used for the first time in testing various fractions. MacLeod's comment reads: 'Thus it would appear as though these transforming extracts may contain a little desoxyribosenucleic acid in addition to the large amount of ribosenucleic acid present.'"
