Abstract:
In this article, Wyatt wrote that although Avery's immunological approach to bacterial pneumonia spawned modern molecular biology, other scientific and medical interests quickly obscured it within the new field. Since pneumonia continued to concern scientists in the early 1970s, Wyatt argued that a return to the immunological approach to combat the illness was appropriate.
