In this chapter excerpt from a collection on genetics research in the early twentieth century, Mirsky, a biochemist and physiologist at the Rockefeller University and an early critic of the "transforming principle," acknowledged the basic findings of Avery, MacLeod, and McCarty's 1944 article on pneumococcus transformation.
