In this article, Anfinsen and a team of researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel concluded that it should be possible to synthesize segments of proteins that were capable of keeping the original conformation in which they existed within the intact protein. They further determined that this approach might be extended to viral coat proteins and bacterial toxins and thus be of value for the planning of synthetic vaccines.
