In this paper, Anfinsen, Ball, Geiman, McKee, and Omsbee described two techniques, "rocker-dilution" and "rocker-perfusion," for the growth and multiplication of malarial parasites in vitro. By studying the parasites in vitro, the team believed that researchers could better address the many biochemical, biological, immunological, and chemotherapeutic aspects of this infectious disease.
