Review of "On the Watchmaker's Blindness" by Lee M. Spetner
Review of "On the Watchmaker's Blindness" by Lee M. Spetner
Contributor(s):
Anfinsen, Christian B. (Christian Boehmer), 1916-1995
In this essay, Anfinsen reviews Spetner's manuscript that responded to Richard Dawkins' "Blind Watchmaker," which explained evolutionary science to laymen while refuting "biological design," or creationism. Spetner concluded that neither side had much evidence to support their positions, but he was far more critical of supporters of evolution, principally noting that evolution was a "statistical impossibility." Anfinsen, who believed in evolution but was also inclined to accept certain aspects of the biological design theory, was much less critical of Spetner's argument than were many other scientists.
