- Abstract:
- Postcard featuring artwork by Swedish multimedia artist, Öyvind Axel Christian Fahlström. The original work, created in 1967, consisted of a pair of manufactured plastic signs; one sign with the original "ESSO" logo (Esso is a trade name for ExxonMobil and its related companies), and the other sign spelling "LSD" in an identical typeface. Each sign measures 35 1/16 x 50 x 5 7/8 inches. "Öyvind Fahlström's ESSO-LSD (1967) is the perfect illustration of the contemporary relevance of Pop Art. A powerful example of the control of advertising with the increasingly mainstream fascination with psychedelics... two simple symbols provide an entire social commentary around the issues of advertising and public perceptions." -- Onya Magazine online, "Come with me on a journey from pop to popism," posted 2/15/15, written by Georgia Ashworth.
