- Abstract:
- This postcard features a black and white drawing of a man in a black suit wearing a huge black hat. The hat covers his face, but leaves a large black mustache showing. The hat features white letters spelling out "SIDA". A speech bubble has "Trop grand pour moi [too large for me]." Across the top of the image black print says "Garetta seul a porter le chapeau." The cartoon refers to Dr. Michel Garretta, former director of the National Center for Blood Transfusion (CNTS) and the main culprit in a French nationwide contaminated blood case. Accused of having favored financial profitability over ethical and medical considerations, he was found guilty in 1992 of having knowingly distributed to hemophiliac patients, from 1984 to the end of 1985, blood products contaminated with the AIDS virus.
