Abstract:
Dr. Donald S. Fredrickson, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is sitting at an oval table during the U.S. House labor and health appropriations subcommittee hearing. On the table are binders, notebooks, water pitchers, and a microphone. Among those sitting with Dr. Fredrickson are Ellen Wormser, of the Dept. of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW), G. Donald Whedon, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and Carl Levinthal. George Payne is sitting by the window. A stenographer is sitting between the oval table and the senator's bench. Reps. William Natcher, from Kentucky's 2nd district, and Joseph Early, from Massachusetts' 3rd district, are seated at the bench with Henry Neil, the committee's clerk. Under a picture between two large windows is a sofa. There are three rows of people sitting behind the oval table.
