A young Chinese girl is learning to speak English by feeling the movement of her teacher's lips and tongue as she speaks. Verso: World Health Day-7 April 1962. Preserve Sight; Prevent Blindness. World Health Day, observed each year on 7 April, marks the anniversary of the coming into force of the Constitution of the World Health Organizations in 1948. The theme chosen for 1962 is "The Prevention of Blindness", and the object of World Health Day is to tell people how much preventable blindness exists in the world and what can be done to stop needless loss of sight. Self-Supporting Citzens. There are at least 650,000 blind children in the world but, as yet, only about 40,000 of them are at school. Chan Poh Lin, a young lind and deaf chinese girl, is a pupil of the famous Perkins school for the Blind at Watertown, Masssachussatts, USA. She has learned spoken English by feeling with her thumbs the movements of her teachers's tongue and lips. Soon she will be a useful and self-supporting citizen.
