When cholera invaded Africa south of the Sahara in 1970 for the first time in a century, "flying faculties" of three members each were speedily organized by WHO. One English-speaking and one French, the teams ran courses for health workers on diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures to stop cholera from spreading.
