Professor L. Hirvonen is following the heartbeat of a newborn lamb on a guage (which is not shown); several pairs of hands belonging to assistants are also visible. Statistics show that cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death in adults today, and their incidence seems to be on the increase. WHO has launched a number of projects in several countries to obtain more knowledge about the factors which aspects of the research that is going in on this field. Professors L. Hirvonen and T. Peltonene at Turku University in Finland have been studying blood circulation in the new-born, a subject about which much more needs to be known. Professor Hirvonen is seen, his eyes fixed on a gauge, following the heartbeat of a lamb that is just being born. There are many simialrities between baby humans and baby animals.
