Birth of a doctor at Leyden University: This young man in top hat and white tie is following a tradition of the University of Leyden in Holland, one of the oldest ans most renowned in the world. He is about to leave in a carriage to defend his thesis for a doctorate in medicine, accompanied by two friends to act as seconds and give him moral support as well as to reply for him in case of loss of memory, theoratically at least. Accepted with honours, he will soon join the 1,300,000 doctors in the world today.
