[Narrator]: Promptly at six o'clock in the morning, the baby calls for food.
[Mother is shown undressing baby, taking him out of his crib, preparing his bottle, changing him, and holding him in her arms.]
After feeding and other attentions, back to the crib for a little play.
At eight o'clock, orange juice and cod liver oil or whatever the doctor ordered.
Then back to sleep while mother gets through with her breakfast work. If the baby is not fed nature's way, there is much fuss, and at least an hour a day is spent preparing bottles and formula because everything that is used must be sterilized. [Mother is shown removing items from a large pot of boiling water on the stove and pouring formula into bottles.]
A little play and rolling about undressed, stretching and kicking.
A drink of water to keep him contented for his bath. A slippery baby with a lively curiosity is a handful for anyone.
[Mother bathes the baby and lays him down on the changing table to be dried and dressed.]
Cereal at 10.
And is he ready!
If the day is fine, the baby goes out of doors.
He can stay out for a long nap while mother is busy.
Mother hears you, and she has another drink of cool boiled water to give you when she gets you out of those wraps and sweaters.
A little play now. Sitting up is a new stunt. So better have some pillows.
And a few minutes in his high chair for a change.
At two o'clock, a vegetable and some [inaudible] egg yolk. Carrots are good. So are peas or beets or asparagus.
This looks like spinach.
Sometimes he drinks milk from a cup, but it's slower than the bottle.
A short nap now out of doors or in his crib, window open.
Mother can read or sew and rest until baby wakes about 4, ready for play. First, will he take a drink of water?
There are callers. The small boy is at the venturesome age when anything could happen, but the baby is happy and safe in his pen.
The young caller has his own toys and his own ideas. The baby is contented with one or two toys and rolls over when he's tired of sitting up.
Father's home, and baby hears him.
Before putting on night clothes, mother lets baby play undressed on the bed.
[Mother dresses baby in his snug night clothes, preparing him for bed.]
Some more orange juice, sometimes tomato juice.
At six o'clock, more cereal.
Then back to bed, window open, door [shut?].
[Inaudible] for another day, this little champ will sleep round the clock.
