| Description: | From the Workers in Tropical Medicine series produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Dr. Jose Oliver-Gonzalez is interviewed about his life and career as a parasitologist. Born in rural Puerto Rico, Dr. Oliver-Gonzalez began working as a technician in the School of Tropical Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) when he was 15. He received his B.S. from UPR and began graduate studies in 1938 at the University of Chicago under William Taliaferro. He returned to UPR in 1941. His research spanned the fields of tropical medicine and parasitology, and included malaria, schistosomiasis, filariasis, ascariasis, and parasite control. |
