Description: This video records the dedication of the Lister Hill Center for Biomedical Communications and the press conference associated with the dedication. Jack Whitehead, chair of the Friends of the National Library of Medicine, discusses the importance of the new center for biomedical technology and its mission to develop and manage information-handling systems. Senator Claude Pepper, architect of the legislation creating the center, talks about its importance as a place to assimilate all research and make information available to everyone. Dr. Donald Lindberg says a few words to introduce Dr. David Lipman, director of the Lister Hill Center, announces the advisory board, and briefly discusses the human genome project. Dr. Lipman answers questions about new computer technology.
