Burroughs Mider, senior consultant to the National Library of Medicine, providing an historical overview of the impact of federal funding and leadership on biomedical research. Dr. Mider describes the impact of agricultural research on biomedicine, the founding of the Hygienic Laboratory in the 1880s and the Food and Drug Administration in 1906, and the influence of military medicine on the field. Following Dr. Mider's presentation, Dr. Ivan Bennett, provost of the Medical Center and dean of the School of Medicine at New York University, discusses Mider's talk and the future of biomedical research. |
