In a special issue World Health presents seven leading figures of French medicine: a paediatrician, a public health specialist, a cancer speacialist, a psychiatrist, a surgeon, a urologist, and a heart specialist. They are all reprentatives of the great humanist tradition of French medicine, which has led France doctors to play a full part in the life of their times and to give the individual huam being pride of place in the practice of medicine. Our photo shows Professor Jacques Parisot, the pionner of social medicine and of international health co-operation, who has shown throughout his long career that medicine is no longer the Good Samaritan helping the sick but has become the science of human life.
